The Wilton Tool Company was established in 1941 by Hugh W. Vogl. The company's name comes from the cross street where its headquarters were originally located - Wilton Avenue and Wrightwood Avenue in Chicago. From 1941 to 1945, the company’s 40S Machinist Vise was produced in Chicago and offered exclusively to the U.S. government, with the majority of vises used in different munitions factories or for production of equipment utilized during WWII. During the early 1950s, Wilton expanded its line of products, and by 1960 it became one of the main industrial vise brands.
In 2014, the Wilton brand, together with Jet and PowerMatic, was acquired by Tenex Capital Management of New York, NY, with the company conglomerate now named JPW Industries. All through the changes that the Wilton Tool Company has seen throughout its seven decades of history, beginning in 1941, when its original bullet vise was created, its vises are still among the largest-selling on the market, and that’s the actual meaning of Holding Strong Since 1941.
