Painting tools and equipment greatly influence the duration and final results of each painting project. In particular, brushes and rollers allow you to apply paint, varnish, or enamel quite effectively, given that these hand tools are properly chosen. When it comes to rollers, they typically consist of a rigid frame and soft roller cover available in numerous sizes. Besides the difference in length, the covers are available in various nap thicknesses, starting from 1/8" to 1-1/4" approximately. For smoother surfaces like drywall, it's recommended to select a shorter nap enabling you to apply paint more evenly.

For rough, textured surfaces, it's better to use higher naps whose longer fibers can better penetrate into narrow valleys and irregularities. To prolong the lifespan of covers, many manufacturers make them lint- or shade-resistant, yet you can choose from acrylic, dralon, nylon, fabric, microfiber, mohairs, and many other cover nap materials.
