Although most wires come from the factory with isolation, the effect and protection provided by this isolation are often insufficient. For instance, it happens when a wire has to work in hard conditions and is exposed to heat, abrasion, oils, or various chemicals. Besides, wire isolation is partly removed in connection areas, and these areas have to be sealed again in order to avoid current leaks or short circuits. Wire & cable sleeving is meant to cope with these tasks, and a wide range of sleeves, cable covers, and related tools is available on our digital shelves.
One of the most universal and practical solutions is installing a heat shrink sleeve. Commonly made of vinyl, the sleeve is positioned on the wire's section that needs extra isolation, and a stream of hot air created by a heat gun makes the sleeve shrink over this section. However, keep in mind that the shrink ratio is limited, so the sleeve's diameter has to be chosen properly if you want to ensure adequate tightness. Other kinds of sleeving include braided sleeving, spiral wrap, wire loom, cable covers, etc. As for cable covers, they are often used to shield the neighboring parts from the moving cable when it belongs to mechanical drive.
