Choosing the most appropriate type of hoses is essential to ensure the efficiency of every hydraulic system. Many hydraulic hoses feature the same structure, but how each component is designed influences their behavior enormously. Typically, a hose has an inner tube that is in contact with the fluid, a reinforcement layer to add strength, and an outer protective coating. The physical characteristics of these parts define the parameters used to classify the hoses, making them more or less suitable for specific applications. The most vital features include working temperature, optimal and peak pressure, flexibility, and resistance to chemicals or fire.
When pressure resistance is a requirement, spiral wire hoses offer good performance. Typically, the reinforcement layer consists of one or more high tensile steel wires running parallel to each other and wrapping the inner core. The downside of these hoses is their poor flexibility. However, when a small bending radius is not essential, their performance is unrivaled. The larger the number of wires, the higher the pressure resistance; the minimum burst pressure can reach 24,000 PSI.
