In many projects, the quality of measurements greatly influences the final result, and even a thousandth part of an inch does matter. High precision is needed not only for numerous industrial applications such as creating steel molds, developing electronics, or building new machinery but also for the repairs of different mechanisms and jewelry. In particular, calipers and inner micrometers are used for major engine overhauls. A mechanic has to properly evaluate the motor's state before repair and observe all the tolerances during the process, otherwise, the job can be just a waste of time and money.
Electronic and mechanical measuring tools and devices created by Mitutoyo are all about accuracy, functionality, and reliability, and they can be used in plenty of areas. The company was founded almost a century ago in Japan, and the first product made by Mitutoyo was a usual micrometer. These days, it's a multinational corporation headquartered in Kawasaki, which produces high-end computer-based metrology systems and stationary coordinate measuring machines (CNC CMM) whose cost can easily exceed hundred of thousands of dollars. In 1963, the company established Mitutoyo America Corporation located in Illinois.
Besides large machinery, its huge assortment includes electronic surface roughness testers, digital calipers, depth meters, standard and internal micrometers, dial indicators, and other portable devices allowing you to measure virtually any object with maximum precision. For advanced measurements of the tiniest clock or electronic components, precious parts, and other objects which are too small to be measured with traditional contact instruments, there are Mitutoyo profile projectors, showing them on a screen under significant magnification, and Mitutoyo microscopes, both standard and motor-driven. To keep all these tools in perfect condition, the company offers numerous replacement parts, but like lots of other pieces of Japanese equipment known for their high quality and dependable operation, products made by Mitutoyo can serve for many years with no problems whatsoever.
