Tools commonly used not only by professional contractors, but also by DIYers to work inside the house or out of it, sanders and polishers will definitely come in handy for a range of projects you have in mind. When you need to smooth the surface to prepare it for painting, a sander is just the right tool to do the job. Compared to sanders that have an abrasive disk, polishers use a smooth fabric pad to give metal surfaces a shiny finish.
Sanding needs to be done every time when smoothing wood or metal surface. No doubt those who have tried sanding by hand realize how inefficient and tiresome the process might be. An electric sander can make things right. Using an abrasive sandpaper attachment, this tool is capable of covering much more ground and minimizing the user fatigue. There is a variety of sanders, first of all classified according to the way the sandpaper is moved across the surface. Thus there are orbital, belt, disk sanders, etc. Pneumatic or electrical, outfitted with different abrasive attachments - the choice of sanders is immense.
The orbital sander is a common tool to be used for fine sanding or when working with small size surfaces. An improved version of the orbital sander is a random orbital sander that spins the abrasive disk and moves it in an ellipse at the same time. Thanks to this unique sanding pattern, you no longer need to worry about swirl marks left on the surface. This tool perfectly merges the speed and ability to create better finish than conventional vibrating sanders can make. Belt sanders work by rotating a continuous band of abrasive, while disk sanders move the flat abrasive disk in a circular pattern.
When choosing the right tool, pay attention to its amperage ranging from 0-2 A/hr up to 5.2-11 A/hr and the size of the abrasive disk, available in 5”, 6”, 7” and 10” variants. Some sanders are also outfitted with a sand collecting feature that sucks the dust into a collector and prevents inhaling surface particles removed by your tool. Replacing the abrasive disk with smooth terry/foam pad, you can turn your sander into a polisher/waxer that will produce swirl-free, glass-smooth finish.
