Modern industry offers a great variety of high-tech electronics including computers, high-end audio systems, satellite equipment, TVs, and other home or office appliances. However, surge protectors typically cost more, as they have a special circuit meant to redirect the spikes of electricity into the ground when they appear. Meanwhile, when extra protection is not needed, power strips can also be quite helpful. Featuring several AC and, sometimes, USB outlets, a power strip can be employed as an extension cable that enables you to power several devices from the same outlet in the wall. However, keep in mind that total power is limited, and such large energy consumers as a heater or air conditioner should not be plugged in a strip.
