Regardless of whether you may need to loosen a rusted bolt or hold some metal parts before welding, you need to have a pair of locking pliers. Such units, also known as mole wrenches or vice / vise grips, are fairly useful, especially when it comes to exerting greater pressure to remove or pry open certain objects. These tools are also utilized where an additional grip is required, so as to hold various parts or components in their place. In general, locking pliers are used in many different ways, including loosening up tightened connections, seized piping, stuck bolts, broken nails, and so on.
These tools work on the principle of over-center clamp. After they become closed on their object, an adjustable threaded mechanism installed in one of the handles provides firm clamping with the handles closing further. The grasp can be released thanks to a special lever. Thus, the pliers are clamped on a workpiece or object without any manual pressure on the handles.
