A power glue gun is a very convenient device using hot melt adhesive (HMA) for gluing various materials such as metal, plastic, rubber, ceramics, glass, and wood. Hot glue is really versatile adhesive, which has certain advantages over solvent-based glue; for instance, it requires less time for consolidation. Any glue gun contains a heating element inside, which requires several minutes to heat up after turning on, melts a glue stick, and maintains needed temperature automatically. A trigger mechanism helps you to push out this glue through a special nozzle. Typically, drying takes less than a minute, but straightway after application, the glue is very hot and may cause injuries, so it's wise to be careful.
As for HMA composition, it can be very complicated. In a nutshell, it consists of a base material (polymer) and different additives. The right mixture allows for obtaining necessary viscosity, melting temperature, speed and degree of crystallization, shrinkage, firmness, resistance to solvents, and so on.
