Extension Cords

Extension Cords

Having at least one or two extension cords is a must in any household. You may need to plug in a phone charger, lamp, power drill, or any other device or tool, but before choosing a new cord, some factors should be taken into account. The length is the first consideration. Buy a somewhat longer cord than you need to provide some extra room for error. Second, consider the wire gauge and amperage. In general, the thicker the cord, the more power it can carry safely. The cord's thickness is usually measured in AWG, and a larger number means a thinner wire.

Commonly, a longer cord has to be somewhat thicker to have the same capacity. If you're going to employ your cord indoors only and never plug in something more powerful than a notebook charger or TV, most cords will suit. But if you're about to connect a heater, air conditioner, or powerful tools, pay more attention to AWG. If the cord is planned to be utilized outdoors, make sure you buy a weather-resistant product specially marked for outdoor use. Most of them are more flexible and can withstand low temperatures or stretching across a job site without damage to their isolation. Actually, there are special abbreviations showing you what kind of isolation is installed, such as SJ, STW, SEO, etc. We carry numerous extension cords to match every need!
